Frank Turner — Dan’s Song (Live at Mannifest, 2011)

(by CraigAlexanderrr)

Frank Turner played a local music festival last Sunday, and we were there! That’s twice I’ve seen him this summer.

For this song, he got a girl from the crowd up to play the harmonica, and she had a nice little moment when she played a bit longer than she had to. At the time, I thought it was an accident, but seeing it again, she was just having a laugh.

Good times.

Either of these things by itself would be enough to give me goosebumps. Combined, it’s brilliant.

MEDIC!
(Shane Taylor playing Eugene Roe in Band of Brothers, taken from Episode 6: Bastogne)
Having started a new job this week, my new boss had a meeting with me so that we could discuss the job and what we expect from each other.
Probably the coolest thing he said to me was that he sees me as being like a medic on the front-line — independent, running all over the place, helping people, checking up on them and fixing things when they go wrong.
He probably couldn’t have chosen a better analogy to make me want to do this job as well as I can.
Tell me the medics aren’t always the best characters in war movies.

That was the week that was

So, after finishing the first week in my new job, the key things I’ve found are:

  • I’m a little out of my depth
  • I’m busy as all hell
  • I worked at least two extra hours each day
  • I worked all day during a national holiday
  • I worked three hours today (Saturday)
  • I’m falling behind already
  • I’m a little bit stressed

But you know what?

  • I’m loving it
