The End of the World

Skeeter Davis

Skeeter Davis — The End of the World

Have you seen the advert for Falling Skies on FX with this song playing over it? I love it.

Unfortunately, the advert doesn’t seem to be on YouTube (yet), so the song will have to do. It gets a little bit country for a few seconds in the middle but, other than that, it’s all good.

And watch FX for a bit, to see it. They seem to be playing it during every other advert break at the moment.

The Parish Walk

Tomorrow, a friend of mine, along with around 1,500 other people, is attempting the Parish Walk — a walking race on the Isle of Man covering 85 miles in under 24 hours. The winner tends to complete it in around 15-16 hours.

He’s aiming to do the full distance, and I’ll be doing a stint of support work for him — driving ahead of him and meeting him every few miles with refreshments, medical aid (plasters, painkillers, etc.) and encouragement.

Despite thinking that the whole thing is insane, I’m looking forward to it, even though I have to wear a reflective bib while I’m doing it.

You know how you sometimes see a film that is so good, you wish you could watch it for the first time all over again? This video is like that. I just watched it three times in a row and I think I smiled the entire time.

As ever with Turner, great tunes come first, as exampled in the gloriously massive mosh-along rock song ‘One Foot Before The Other’, singles ‘Peggy Sang The Blues’ and ‘I Still Believe’, and the unshakably memorable ‘I Am Disappeared’. Closing with the smart anti-hymn ‘Glory Hallelujah’, ‘England Keep My Bones’ never falters. The soundtrack to this summer? Screw that — these songs will be soundtracking many of our lives for years to come.

Rock Sound magazine’s 9/10 review of Frank Turner’s new album England Keep My Bones.

No argument here.
