We are limited, not by our abilities, but by our vision

I’m short-sighted and usually wear contact lenses. Not for any vain reason, but because

  • I hate the feeling of glasses constantly sitting on the bridge of my nose
  • I feel really vulnerable with my only way of seeing properly being some metal and plastic clipped to my head.

I went to order some new contact lenses today, but I need an annual checkup before they’ll let me have any more, and I can’t get an appointment for 14 days. I have 11 sets of contact lenses left. I’m going to have to ration them for a couple of weeks.

But, because I don’t wear my glasses that often, I haven’t had the lenses changed for a couple of years, even though my vision has gotten a bit worse. The glasses are still pretty good, but they’re not as good as my contact lenses, so I feel a bit weird wearing them all day.

I’m going to go to the opticians tomorrow morning and try some new frames, but I’m not sure if it’s worth me getting lenses fitted, as I could find out in a couple of weeks that my vision has changed again and that I’ll need new lenses.

But I want to be able to see clearly right now!

I think I’ll just get the lenses as soon as possible, because it will at least be better than what I have at the moment.

Hopefully, they’ll let me take a few sets of frames home for a few days, so that I can spend hours in front of the mirror and computer seeing which ones I prefer. I might even put some photos up here and ask for people’s opinions.

I hope people with good vision appreciate it (can you imagine being able to see the time on the alarm clock as soon as you wake up? That would be so sweet!). And I hope that people with vision defects are better prepared than me.

And I hope I can blag a few more contact lenses from them tomorrow.
