I like it when…

I like it when you’re walking down the street, and there’s a group people who are walking ahead of you, and you can see that most of them are spending less time talking and joking with the group and more time trying to make sure that they don’t get stuck in one of the ‘shunned’ positions, either at the edge of the group or behind everyone else.

You can see them looking and thinking and jostling and weaving into gaps without wanting to look like they’re trying to, and you can see the people that have found a ‘good’ position fight as hard and as subtly as they can to keep it, by closing gaps around them or keeping any gaps just small enough so that no-one can fit comfortably into them.

I like that.
