The Anniversary - Sweet Marie
Many people, myself included, found it difficult to fully-accept their change in sound between the first and second albums. If I had to pick one album, I’d pick Designing A Nervous Breakdown, but if I had to pick one song, I’d probably pick this — Sweet Marie, the opening track from Your Majesty.
It definitely belongs on the second album, with its more thoughful sound and, as an opening track, it couldn’t have stated that album’s intentions more clearly: This is different. For that, I should maybe dislike it. But I can’t, because it’s too good.
