The Smith Street Band — The Belly of Your Bedroom

Frank Turner recently played with them and touted them on Twitter. I’m glad he did.

I’ve listened to the album maybe five times in the last couple of days and love it. This is possibly my favourite track, maybe because it’s ace, but more likely because I have a huge weakness for women with Aussie accents, and this song has a fair amount of that.

OMFG SPIDER!

Since the weekend, there’s been a little bit of clothing sticking out from the crack in my wardrobe door. Every time I see it, my lizard brain immediately screams “Spider!” and I tense up before I remember that it isn’t.

My calf muscle has healed to the point where it's pleasurably painful to walk

And on a brighter note, this is probably my favourite Olympic moment. Kelly Holmes had always promised so much, but had always been affected by injuries. This time, at 34 years old, she made it all the way through.

She had a great style, where she hung around for most of the race and then went into another gear in the final 300 metres. It was amazing to watch.

I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at the TV as much as I did during the 800m, which is the first race shown in this video.

I’m not going to lie — this event was in my mind while I crossed the finish line after pulling my calf muscle during the charity run today.

There are some important differences, though:

Redmond was a professional athlete. I am not.
Redmond was a good athlete. I am not.
When this happened to Redmond, it was heartbreaking. When it happened to me, it was pathetic.

Seriously, the fact that I thought of this after 20 years should tell you how amazing this moment was. I remember it happening as clear as day and I still get a lump in my throat when I think about it.

Today, I pulled a muscle in my calf while doing a charity run for breast cancer

This afternoon, I went to visit my granddad and got to see Shogun (a Border Collie) again. Every time I go there, Shogun barks at me until I kneel down and play with him. Then he’ll lie down and let me stroke him, but as soon as I stop and stand up, he’ll start barking at me again like he’s never seen me. Border Collies are weird, but dogs in general are ace.
