One of my favourite movie scenes of all time. Jimmy Stewart just nails it.

The first time I saw the film was when I was maybe 12 and it was just a boring old black and white film with people I’d never heard of that was on TV on a Sunday afternoon. I can remember that this scene made me stop whatever I was doing and just watch. I didn’t know why at the time. I do now.

I loved this film as a kid. It wasn’t until I saw it again when I was maybe 18 that I realised that Gene Hackman wasn’t the glasses-wearing scientist you can see in the trailer. I didn’t know who Gene Hackman was when I first saw the film, but somehow I linked him to the character as I got older. Please tell me that they do look kind of alike.
