Radiohead - Pablo Honey

Hearing any track off this album just brings me back to first year of university. I didn’t realise how often I must have listened to it at the time but, every time I hear a song from the album, I’m right back in my dorm room.

I like it when…

I like it when you’re walking down the street, and there’s a group people who are walking ahead of you, and you can see that most of them are spending less time talking and joking with the group and more time trying to make sure that they don’t get stuck in one of the ‘shunned’ positions, either at the edge of the group or behind everyone else.

You can see them looking and thinking and jostling and weaving into gaps without wanting to look like they’re trying to, and you can see the people that have found a ‘good’ position fight as hard and as subtly as they can to keep it, by closing gaps around them or keeping any gaps just small enough so that no-one can fit comfortably into them.

I like that.

I’m so excited…

I’m going to the Download Festival in June, and there will probably definitely be more posts about it before, during and after the fact, but I just found out that Rival Schools are playing!

having flashbacks.

rach:

Do you remember that feeling that you (maybe) had as a child, at the end of a very long, very hot day at an outdoor pool? I’m thinking of the slow burn that happened after hours of deep diving and cannoballs, when you were sitting in the backseat of a car in only your bathing suit, smelling of chlorine and paba-free coppertone, with a towel shoved under your butt to block the heat of the split leather upholstery and the seatbelt metal. The afternoon seemed infinite and sluggish, the sun cutting through the trees barely hitting the ground, as if it was simply too lazy to make it all the way to the sidewalk. It was this odd mix of overheating and hunger and lightness and total exhaustion and the oven-baked admission that you had used up all your juice for the day, in a good way. Jokes and headaches and snocone breath and the anticipation of delivery pizza waiting at home.

Don’t know why I got all Jungian, but this is the closest thing to how I feel today.

This just makes me remember being a kid and loving swimming but always being that kid that ended up with swollen, red, sore, teary eyes from the chlorine for at least six hours after I’d been in the pool. Seriously, I always hated the few hours afterwards, but wild horses couldn’t have stopped me from being there. The goggles, they did nothing.

Biffy Clyro - Glitter and Trauma

I finally get to see Biffy Clyro play live in a couple of months.

Muse - Stockholm Syndrome (Earls Court 2004)

Seeing Muse play in Manchester a couple of years ago is one of the highlights of my life. This video is so good it almost makes me want to cry.

It’s one of the bonus videos on the Absolution Tour DVD.

The game is on.

I made it to my desk for 8.35 today and shocked a few people in the office. Now I have a bet with a girl at work that if I can be at my desk by 8.30 for the rest of the week, she’ll buy me a coffee every morning next week. If I fail, I buy the coffees.

-I don’t have to be logged into the network, just sitting at my desk.

-The time we’re using is the time on our desk phones. If they’re showing 8.30, I failed.

I can do this.

A friend of mine just bought Frank Black a pint.

He just texted me, “Ha ha just bought Black Francis a pint. He’s loving it.”

He’s in the middle of a European tour right now, playing in Manchester tonight.

Multi Purpose Chemical - Human (via HoneyRecords). I saw these guys play in a tiny, packed venue over the weekend and they were amazing. We met the band in the bar afterwards, and they’re great guys as well - friendly, intelligent, determined and talented. They’re in that ‘Almost Famous’ place at the moment, but they’ve got an album coming out on Monday and I know I’m buying it. Good luck to them.
