Tumblr MP3 Player

One of the most frequently mentioned gripes with Tumblr’s audio post functionality is the lack of a continuous playlist of audio posts. Various people have attempted to hack workarounds (myself included, with limited success), but none come close to what Dan Kantor has managed.

In his post he introduces the Streampad-powered Tumblr MP3 player, and it couldn’t be easier to get up and running. You can also see it in action, stuck to the bottom of your browser, when you’re on his site. If that isn’t a perfect solution to a problem (in lieu of an official solution, one would presume), I don’t know what is.

I exchanged a few e-mails with Dan, and he made sure to mention that this is new stuff, and if you spot any bugs, or have any feedback at all, let him know in the comment field of the above-linked blog entry.

This probably goes without saying, but expect to see this on Tuneage soon.

Okay, this looks pretty sweet!

It’s like a gang war between the people who shout, the people who hear, the people who talk and the people who listen.

Fuck off

no I won’t do your gay little survey. We provide the content without which David and his chums couldn’t get fucking herpes, never mind another round of funding. I think that’s enough unpaid labour for one day, don’t you?

This cracked me up. Thank you.

Top 5

You know, I was just wondering what the top 5 most played artists of all the people I follow was last week. Not enough to actually go and visit their last.fm pages; just enough to watch it stream by in my Tumblr dashboard, where I hope to see lots of interesting content, creative things, and automatically imported feeds from social networks!

Thanks guys!

I kind of feel the same way when I see nostrich reblog something from Tuneage, the great music blog he helps run. But then I remember that I chose to follow both blogs, so can’t really complain. Also, I’m able to just scroll past the reblog in my dashboard, so I do.

I honestly don’t understand why people get so freaked out about the wave of Last.fm Top 5 Artist posts that happen once a week. Can’t you just scroll past the posts or unfollow people if you don’t like their content?

Underrated movie meme

I’m starting a new meme: Re-blog this and list three movies you think are underrated.

I’m inclined to agree with Marco that these auto-generated lists are useless (I don’t care what music you’ve been listening to the most lately; if I did, I could go to Last.fm myself!). But this is double useless.
Jesus, chalk up another mark under ‘Reasons to leave Tumblr’.
Not everyone uses Tumblr to feed other people’s dashboards - they use it to create their own blog, which anyone can read. They are free to add what they want. I can only imagine the hardship and distress some people must feel when they have to scroll past a post on their dashboard (from someone whose content they have chosen to subscribe to) that they don’t want to read.
